Introduction to Pixelart
About Course
In this course you will learn how to start drawing pixel art by using the Graphics Gale program. During the course we will explain how the program works, the tools it offers and above all, how to take advantage of certain techniques for a better drawing.
Pixel art or pixel art is a form of digital art, created through a computer by using raster graphics editing programs, where images are edited at the pixel level. The images of most of the old video games for PC, game consoles and many cell phone games are considered pixel art works. It has similarities with pointillism, differing mainly in the tools for creating the images: computers and programs instead of brushes and canvases. The terminology Pixel Art was first published by Adele Goldberg and Robert Flegal, both members of the Xerox Research Center in Palo Alto. Pixel art owes its origin mainly to video games, especially classic arcade games such as Space Invaders (1978) or Pac-Man (1980) and 8-bit consoles such as the Nintendo Entertainment System (1983) and the Sega Master System (1985).
The term pixel art was first published by Adele Goldberg and Robert Flegal of the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center in 1982. The concept, however, dates back to the development of Richard Shoup's SuperPaint system in 1972, also at Xerox PARC.
Some traditional art forms, such as counted thread embroidery (including cross-stitch) and some types of mosaic and beadwork, are very similar to pixel art. These art forms construct images from small units of color in a manner similar to pixels in modern digital computing. A similar concept on a much larger scale can be seen at the Arirang Festival in North Korea.
